Liberty Sunset is a full service Garden Center, set apart from all other similar stores by our spectacular location on the water in Red Hook, Brooklyn, with views of the Statue of Liberty and the harbor; our wood shop which allows us to custom-build planters, trellises and much more for our customers; our in-house flower arranger Leroy Jackson, whose wonderful arrangements and personal touch brighten any special occasion; our collection of beautiful hand-made furniture, imported from Colombia, for both indoor and outdoor settings; and, not least, by our extensive and ecclectic collection of plants, which includes 20-foot Yucca trees, elephant ears, water lillies, a collection of exotic cacti and tropicals, and much much more.
     Our Garden Center was born from Hungarian-born owner Sandor Gubis' life-long passion for plants. His vast personal collection has thrived here for many years, but the spring of 2006 marked our first season as a full- fledged garden center. Since then we have expanded a bit, acquiring and developing our outdoor garden, now the center of activity here, which features a gorgeous 100 foot trellis, built in our shop, where our shade-loving plants live; a 10 ft high compost container, where we recycle all our organic material; a green power kiosk, with wind and solar power that will eventually provide all the electricity used by the garden; stone walls and encolsures by our stone-work specialist Joseph Schilling; and of course our beautiful collection of plants, shrubs and trees.
